Our Curriculum Review

After 1.3 years of homeschooling we have tried out quite a few different curricula, and I'm sure if you are a homsechooler you have too, or perhaps you are just beginning and want to hear from other people about what has worked for them. I will attempt to categorize by subject and degree of satisfaction as well as to give a brief description. The curriculum or resources I LOVE or RECOMMEND are in RED. Online We are doing a Virtual school this year and have had the opportunity to sample a couple of online options. My son and daughter had different experiences/successes with the online options. After seeing how they work, I am not a big fan. There are definitely some good points to them, but I think personally, after this experience I am leaning towards paper and paper with experiential options. Pros in general : Supposed independence. We start our day with the online curriculum and during that time, I prep breakfast, take care...

Feeling Soo inspired by book Radical Homemaking

Reading this book and feeling sooooo inspired. This is beyond liberal/conservative--It is NOT about being "subservient" or "less than"--It is about being independent of corporations--of developing SKILLS that have been lost..so that we don't have to be in such a hurry and have to buy (McDonalds or other convieniences)--so we can eat healthy food...and buy less "stuff" and instead spend time together as familiies and community..get to know our neighbors.. Forty, Assertiveness, and Conequences

Someone told me that part of being forty for her was a process of letting go of people and things--and being able to do that. Some people can be toxic in particular relationships and sometimes it is necessary to let go of that relationship when it is like that. Lately, I've come to terms with some of my own limitations while raising three children, and I have had to voice those limitations. I cannot be as open or do everything I would like to do, or quite be the person I would like to be--I have to be honest with that, and sometimes I have to admit to it when I am at my limit and say "no" sometimes.
